U.S. Army Cracks Down on Video Games

Think that Call of Duty would be great for training real soldiers? The U.S. Army begs to differ, or at least it doesn't want soldiers to train with video games without official permission. An Army directive, signed by a four-star general last summer, bars Army units from purchasing or developing training games without first going through the Army's training bureaucracy. The Army says this is necessary to make sure that different training systems can work together, and to save money by ensuring that units don't buy games that only benefit them rather than the entire Army. Units that violate the rules won't get Army training funds for these games, which means they will have to tap into their operations and maintenance funds to pay for them.
